2nd Annual Amazon Customers Vote

Saturday, November 22nd, 2008

Amazon Customers Vote has returned! In case you missed it last year, here’s the skinny.

How This Works
Welcome to Amazon Customers Vote 2008, your chance to compete for our most ridiculous deals of the season. The products that get the most votes in each of six rounds will be offered at ridiculous deal prices, and the runners-up will also be offered at slightly smaller discounts. (But they’ll still be sweet deals.)

* Step 1: Vote.
Browse our six rounds of great products, and vote for the ones you’d like to buy at an amazing discount.
* Step 2: Check E-mail.
Check your e-mail the day before each buying round to see if you’ve been randomly selected to participate in the race to buy.
* Step 3: Go!
If selected, make sure you come back and log-in early on race day. We will have many more participants than deals, so the race is on. Good luck!

A new twist this year is that you can buy any of the three deals and not just the one for which you voted.

Here are this year’s deals:

    PS3 Blu-ray Sci-Fi Bundle for $199.00
    PS3 Blu-ray Action Bundle for $229.00

Amazon Ditches “Secret” Price Guarantee

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

One of my favorite things about shopping on Amazon was their 30-day post-purchase price guarantee. This policy granted shoppers a 30-day price protection window in case the price of an item you purchased dropped below the price you paid.  A simple email to customer support and voila, a refund was issued almost instantaneously. This was probably the site’s best kept secret.  Or was it?

Apparently enough shoppers had gotten wind of the price guarantee that Amazon was leaking too much of that $14.8B annual revenue.  As of September 1, 2008, Amazon has dropped the policy.

All is not lost however. According to PriceProtectr.com there are still at least 130 other online retailers offering up price protection today.  Be sure not to overlook this great price saving tool after making your next purchase.  I’ve saved literally hundreds of dollars using PriceProtectr after purchases of an HDTV, a camcorder and some miscellaneous stuff in the past 12 months. It’s a great addition for your bargain hunting toolkit.
