McCafé is McDonald’s answer to Starbucks. The coffee-house-style cafes are now located in McDonald’s restaurants around the world. Launched in Melbourne, Australia in 1993, McCafé quickly became the #1 coffee house in Australia. McDonald’s is currently expanding McCafé nation-wide in the US and is making a big marketing push.
A popular Consumer Reports test conducted in March of 2007 showed the basic black coffee at McCafé taste better – and, of course, was considerably cheaper – than Starbucks! With the news of over 600 Starbucks stores closing in 2008, and McDonald’s continuing McCafé expansion across the US, it seems Starbucks may be in a heap of trouble.
Assuming the average cup of joe at McCafé is 25% cheaper than Starbucks, and assuming Starbucks is costing you $4 per day (Monday-Friday), you could see a cost savings of more than $250 per year by making the switch! Better yet, brew your own coffee at home and save hundreds more!!
What do you think – will the Golden Arches rise above the Seattle giant?
